Daughtry is an American Music Award-winning and Grammy-nominated rock band from North Carolina, formed by former American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry in 2006. Their self-titled debut album was released on November 21, 2006. The disc reached #1 for two non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200, outsold Idol winner Taylor Hicks' debut effort, sold more than 3 million copies and was named the number one selling album of 2007 by billboard. He was the fourth-place finalist on the highly publicized fifth season of American Idol, eliminated from the competition on May 10, 2006. After his fallout from Idol, he was given a record deal by RCA Records, along with 19 Entertainment. In its ninth week of release, the album reached number one on the Billboard charts, edging out the Dreamgirls soundtrack.
